A garage is a dedicated space integrated into or alongside a residential building for the storage of cars, motorbikes, scooters or any other type of vehicle (motorised or non-motorised). The term garage is also used to describe a space within a multiple-occupant residential building, normally located in the basement, where private, individually-assigned parking spaces are available for residents to park their vehicles securely. These parking spaces are normally included in the rental price.
The garage is designed to enable owners to park their vehicles in a sheltered location, to eliminate the risks associated with public on-street parking, such as damage and theft. So-called "residential" garages are normally considered to be a separate room or space within a home. The main purpose of this type of garage is to provide a space place where the occupant may store his/her vehicle. Such garages come in a wide array of shapes and sizes, and can also be used to store tools and other household objects, or as a workshop. The garage is therefore a practical space with both a functional and aesthetic purpose.
