A security guard is responsible for surveillance activities and the protection and security of assets, buildings and even people. A car park security guard is responsible for welcoming motorists, controlling access to the car park, conducting security patrols, ensuring that the relevant safety instructions are followed, taking appropriate action in the event of an emergency and alerting and guiding the emergency services. The security guard is also required to write event or activity reports.
The security guard is therefore responsible for safety and security at the site at which he/she works. His/her role is to prevent theft or other criminal acts by controlling access to the entrances and exits. The security guard is also able to take basic safety and fire prevention action.
The vast majority of security guards use CCTV systems, access control software and fire detection systems to support them in their role.
