The English word "box" is used in French to refer to an automobile parking space that is fully enclosed.
A box (or garage) is therefore a dedicated space designed to accommodate one or more parked vehicles. Boxes or garages can also be found inside multiple-occupant residential buildings, normally at basement level. They are private, sheltered parking spaces that can only be accessed by authorised individuals.
Some private car parks also feature individual "boxes" to protect vehicles from damage or theft.
